Wii Error Code: 51330 Unable to connect to your wireless network

June 19, 2011

Q: We got Netflix lately, and I wanted to set the Wii up to stream movies and TV shows but I keep getting the error code 51330 on the Wii. According to their support site, that means there’s something wrong with the password for our WPA wireless connection, but I know for sure I’m entering the correct password! What else can I try?

A: If your password is less than 10 characters, the Wii may reject it anyway. I’ve heard that iPads will do the same thing. Go back into your router’s wireless security setup and make that password at least 10 characters long. Remember to wait for a good time to do this – because you’ll also have to update the setting on all the PCs, phones, and any other devices you have on your wireless network!

Something else too – if it’s been a while since you’ve been in your router’s setup you may not have enough devices allowed in your basic security setup. I had originally set 8 as the maximum DHCP addresses that would be given out but once we all got smartphones, a laptop, you get the picture, we had maxed out at our house. Sure you don’t want to provide wi-fi for the whole neighborhood but be sure you allot enough addresses.

WLAN’s can really drive you crazy sometimes. Those passwords are just killing me when you have to enter them with a gamepad or pointing device. And having enough IP’s in the DHCP server is essential too.

Great points @Josh and @Mark. And yes, what a pain in the neck entering passwords from something other than a keyboard!

I can feel your pain.. Passwords can be very irritating at times but of course we just need them for security purposes.

My issue with these damned passwords is no about entering (I manage it, somehow :) ), it is more about forgetting them. I have faced many problems due to this but now I have resolved to use some selected password on different categories of systems, websites, applications, etc.

The problem is that i got two devices that wont connect if the password is longer than 7 digits. I have to replace these… Stupid Technology :-D

:D Yep, that sort of thing happens to me all the time. Things don’t stop working, but they get so nothing else will work with them!

Great post, thank you! Passwords, although annoying keep things safe.

I agree with everyone here. Setting up password is so annoying at times but we have to do it for security reasons.
