MiscBytes unusual niche of the month

August 23, 2009

I’ve already told you I really love to see and hear about peoples’ niches, whether an occupation or hobby, and sometimes a niche is so unusual it makes me want to tell others about it. I’m not one who likes to commit to stuff too far in advance :) but I’m going to go on and commit to starting a monthly post on niches. Each month I’ll bring you a niche that is unusual (to me). It will usually be a human niche, but sometimes it may be another creature of land, sea, or sky. Anyway, here is August’s MiscBytes unusual niche of the month!

Have you ever wondered what you would do if your next door neighbor and his wife actually did kill each other in one of those raging arguments and did it on your property? Or what if you run over your ex-wife on the way home from a party – maybe run her over more than once just for good measure? Well there is a niche to help get your house or car or street back into tip top shape after an incident like that. It’s the crime scene cleanup niche! There are some crime scene cleanup companies with websites that actually have lurid pictures, but I found a tasteful one to share with you. See – you’d just click on Contact Us, use the dropdown to select the type of incident you’d just caused/witnessed, and you’re ready to rock and roll!
crime scene contact form

The above is the contact form from BioSolutionsArizona.com. (Actually they have 24 hour phone number for you to use, but I had to show you the contact form).

I understand that anyone really in need of these services would not find this at all amusing, and the niche is certainly needed, but I do wonder why all the websites exist. I don’t know much about it, of course, but I would have thought this would be more of a discreet thing where law enforcement or even homeowners insurance would know and recommend a company but you wouldn’t be Googling for it at 3 in the morning. Anyway, that’s our unusual niche for August!

Note: One guy has already asked me – I’m sure these crime scene cleanup companies will only come and do the work after the area has been processed by police.  They will not help you to sanitize your house to avoid the CSI guys detection after you lose your temper with your mother-in-law .   :)

Wow, that really is an unusual niche. I think I’m going to enjoy this new series on unusual niches. Cleaning up bio-hazard waste and other nasties is surely a lucrative field.

Hi Brian – yes! Someone had a great idea – in CSI type shows and books the last thing we hear at the scene is,”Sorry about the mess ma’am..” Someone noticed that and had a high dollar niche idea!
Thanks for your comment, and please come back to MiscBytes often!

Jason August 23, 2009 at 1:24 pm

Wow people can come up with some really interesting ideas. I wonder how he thought of this idea…?

Christie August 23, 2009 at 3:44 pm

I do too really. I wonder if he was in law enforcement and thought, “Ya know, I’ll bet those folks would pay someone to….” Innovation!

Stefan August 23, 2009 at 2:32 pm

“They will not help you to sanitize your house to avoid the CSI” – A true shame. ;) I guess we all have to rely on old Aqua regia then.

LOL Stefan!!! Yes, that should remove all traces of an unfortunate incident.

Doug Dillard August 23, 2009 at 7:09 pm

I was really excited about this post until I read your last paragraph… Now that would be a popular business ;) Actually I LOVE my inlaws, so I definitely wouldn’t need that one.

Great post Christie… I too love learning about different niches and I look forward to reading what you find for us next month.

:D Thanks Doug! This is going to be a fun series to do.

Extreme John August 23, 2009 at 8:32 pm

That is def a unique niche thats for sure, I like it though. Not simply because of the type of niche that it is (yes I like that kind of stuff too), but because it’s such a “Micro” niche.

Christie August 24, 2009 at 6:22 am

Me too. Micro niches in nature amaze me, and it is really cool when a human finds one. Goes to show that although we have a lot of people on this planet, we can’t say, “all the good niches are gone.” :D

Greg Ellison August 23, 2009 at 9:29 pm

That is a very interesting niche to be in, but it is a sad realization that we need these kind of people around. I am glade the morgue doesn’t have any computers at work. Greg Ellison

Christie August 24, 2009 at 6:23 am

Definitely – sad that there’s enough clientele to keep a business going. And Greg, I’m glad that although it’s Monday morning and I have to commute, etc., I am ONLY going to be sitting at a nice, clean computer. :)

Sire August 24, 2009 at 12:28 am

Man, who would ever think that there was even a need for this type of niche. Their ‘transform the crime scene cleaning industry’ got me, I mean there’s so much crime down there that an industry has developed around it. Go figure.

I suppose when things are quite they spend time on the BIO HAZARD cleanup. Man, talk about an exciting job. “Hey honey, remember how yesterday I had to pick up that dismembered body out of the bathtub, well today we had to deal with a major chemical spill so you may want to wear gloves when doing my overhauls today.

Christie August 24, 2009 at 6:27 am

LOL Sire! And yes, with there being more guns than people in the U.S. now (I made that up, have no idea how many guns there are really) this is probably a thriving business. Hmmm.. wonder if we could get another niche off of this – “I will clean your gun and hide it for you for ten years” or something like that.

Sire August 24, 2009 at 6:26 pm

Now don’t you go start giving people ideas Christie :D

Tee hee – yes – I’ll bet that sort of business already exists and is thriving! :)

DiTesco August 24, 2009 at 9:24 am

Hi Christie. This crime scene niche is unusual indeed and once again the internet never stops to amaze me. This is the first time I visit your blog and I already know I have been missing an awful lot. Thanks to the FBC, famous bloggers club – which I am a member of BTW:), I have found you. Great interview by the way.

As with this unusual monthly niche, I am sure it will be a bang. Keep up the good work.

And Ohhh, thanks for the link to biosolutions, you never know when it will come in handy, lol

Hi DiTesco! Thanks so much!

Hah – yes – I wonder if Biosolutions takes advance requests – “Be ready for a call at 9 pm Friday…” ;)

Thanks for your comment!

Klaus from TechPatio August 24, 2009 at 1:23 pm

This reminds me of something – was it an episode of CSI or a movie, where they came out and cleaned a crime scene *before* it was processed by the police? I think it was a movie actually, don’t remember which one though.

Niches are great, it’s amazing what kind of ideas people come up with every now and then. Looking very much forward to next months niche.

Ha – I guess that figures someone would have already thought of that scenario. I am truly excited about looking into some more niches!

Asswass August 24, 2009 at 3:19 pm

Hey Asswass – congrats on a second year in a row Miss Venezuela Miss Universe!

Sire August 24, 2009 at 6:28 pm

That’s true, if you went any further south you’d need and igloo. :D

Ching Ya August 24, 2009 at 10:41 pm

ha.. 27 comments! It was no surprise as I’m sure this will create some fuss about this unique post. I love CSI, whether the show or PC game.. never will I thought about there are actually some people working on cleaning up the crime scene (wonder if as pro) as they do?! Imagining the shock! I wonder if there’s another team of heroes who work on another side of the internet to nail the unsolved cases? =P

Or will this give an idea to the authorities to set up similar sites as undercover? May save a lot of detective work.

I wonder what you’ll have for us next month? ^^ Looking forward.

That is a very good thought! Since the companies have all the equipment and know-how, I wonder if the employees may be approached once in a while by someone who wants a clean up “off the record?” ;)

Jean August 24, 2009 at 11:24 pm

I don’t think I could stomach that job! Hahahahaha! Looking forward to reading this series.

Christie August 25, 2009 at 5:19 pm

LOL – yes one of the services I saw on some of these companies was that they’ll clean up houses where someone has been “hoarding” stuff. I suppose they could come in and clean a house that had been torn up, ETC, by cats! I have two cats and feel like I can’t win sometimes too. Hahaha imagine what the neighbors would think to see that truck in the driveway. Nothing to see here ma’am…

Blogspot to Wordpress August 25, 2009 at 7:14 pm

Lol’z thats an interesting find.. Some time I have come across such niche which makes me rotate around that blog.. One such niche was motor bike accidents.. unlimited videos of motor bike accidents…

All I can say is wow. The things people profit from doing.

“They will not help you to sanitize your house to avoid the CSI guys detection”

lol too bad, I know a few people that would pay extra for that. :)

Great find though, I can’t wait to read about the next unusual niche.

christie August 26, 2009 at 6:53 pm

:D You are so right. “I gotta guy we can call…” there are probably side businesses that will do it BEFORE.

Surender Sharma August 27, 2009 at 3:07 am

:) Yeah it’s one of the more unusual ones I’ve seen around! I’d hate to work there, but I’m sure the owner of the company makes lots of $$.

Tricia August 28, 2009 at 3:17 pm

If you have the stomach for it, why not? I think it would be a very interesting job to have. You never know what you will be doing or what you’ll see. I’m a bit weird though.
