Let me add you to my Twitter list!

October 29, 2009

Last night when I logged into Twitter, I had a message from them that they are trying Lists in Beta. They mentioned that not everyone is getting to use Lists yet, so I should not tweet about it. Therefore I won’t. Shhh…

create a new listOnce I got access to Lists, I can see that most of the people I follow are already using them, so I guess this is no big mystery to most of you. For those who don’t, once you get access to Lists, you’ll start seeing them in Twitter, and you can create private or public lists of people to follow. This is great for those of us who are not using a third party app like Tweetdeck. We’re all following so many people that we’re seeing a bunch of spam, and otherwise a bunch of crap we don’t want to see. I’m very happy about being able to create lists of bloggers or other people who share various interests with me so I can really see their tweets.

Now you can look around Twitter and find cool public lists others have created, and actually choose to follow any of them you want. I think it’s soon going to be a status thing to be on the most lists, and now that number is listed on your Twitter profile. Remember, there are private lists too, so you must assume you’re on lots of peoples’ private stalker favorite lists too.

Thanks to the three people who already have me on one of their lists, shown in the picture at the top!  I’d like to follow all of the MiscBytes readers in my Kick Ass Bloggers list. Please leave a comment with your Twitter name below, and I’ll follow you and add you to the list!

Hi SaurabhStar – I added you to my list!

Klaus from TechPatio October 30, 2009 at 3:52 am

So basically, if you *follow* a list, you will see all tweets from twitters in that list (even though you don’t follow them individually) – or are they auto-added to your follow list (all the members of a list)?

Dear Klaus,
I was thinking the same thing.
I have noticed that someone has added me to one of their lists, and upon clicking it, I see he has named the list as “twitterville” and under that I have a collection of people’s tweets whom I think are his buddies, under this list which he has created. The members of this list, aren’t in any way auto-added to your list though. You can just see the member’s tweets under that category. Interesting, we’ll see how that goes.

I have also just realised that the tweets under the list are just general ones-which I think is great as it cuts out the backchat you have with other people when you are replying. This means that other users who are also within that list, will only be able to see your general messages under that list. To see other tweets, they will have to click on your profile. A good idea I think. :)

Hi Klaus – I’m glad Ana looked into that – and that’s what I was thinking too – that we just follow the list and see it when we look at the list. And btw, of course, you’re on my Kick-Ass Bloggers list.

Asswass October 30, 2009 at 3:10 pm

Ana October 31, 2009 at 7:56 am

Dear Christie,
I have noticed this today and find it interesting and at the same time a wise idea to organise by the interest in group. When I was on Twitter the first time, I had a large variety of people and I think I really needed this option then. My first Twitter account was spammed, so I decided to cancel it. I have another account now, and more observant in who is adding me.

My twitter account is @TruAnaGoncalves

Best Wishes
Hope you are well. :)

Hi Ana – I’m with you. It’s so nice to be able to see the filtered lists now. Thanks, and take care!

Oh, and of course you are on my Kick-Ass Bloggers list!

Extreme John November 1, 2009 at 9:25 am

I shoved this into my Read it Later add-on because I have yet to do anything with Twitter lists and plan on it, once I do this will help :)

:) I’m enjoying the lists, since I just log onto whatever computer I can get, whether at work or at home, and don’t use Tweetdeck, etc. This filters out enough spammers and others so that you can really see what the people you care to follow are saying.

George Serradinho November 2, 2009 at 3:03 am

Wow, I just learned something new now.

Ching Ya November 2, 2009 at 4:44 am

I was ecstatic to see the ‘list’ option few days back too. Can’t wait to organize my list — a way to remember why I follow him/her in the first place. I made a few public lists and some private ones, still not fully organized. It’ll be great to have the lists integrated with other twitter clients available. I predict, who ever started that will earn a big cheer. ^^

Have added some of you in my lists too! Hope to see you on Twitter.

I was so surprised when I first saw lists, because people had already had ‘em for a while I guess – I was already on some. I do love it – a nice, quick way to check up on your various groups of tweeters.

Nice initiative christie. My username is ricky709. I hope you remember me. I usually use tweetdeck to follow my friends. I hope the developers update it asap.

Sire November 15, 2009 at 12:01 am

This would be pretty useless to me as I hardly ever log onto Twitter, probably because I use TweetDeck. I wonder it that’s why they started lists in the first place, trying to get people back. I reckon they will have to do a hell of a lot more work on it if they want to win me back.
