GoDaddy’s Twitter integration helps you with branding
I got my GoDaddy August newsletter today, and this time I decided to open it and see if there was something besides just the same old ways for me to part with my money. There was something that’s definitely new to me, but it turns out this has been going on since the beginning of July. Now when you log into your GoDaddy account and look at your domains, you have a new Twitter icon beside each domain name. By clicking it, you can see if the same name is available on Twitter. If the name is available on Twitter, you are told that and you get a link to go to Twitter sign up. If it is not, there is a box into which you can put a new name to check for Twitter availability.
The thought is that if the Twitter name is available, you should grab it so you can have a stronger brand that way by having the same name for your domain and for Twitter – and tweeting about your news, your sales, or your upcoming projects from that account. Strangely (to me), if I began the process of finding a brand new domain name and starting to buy it, I was not offered a Twitter icon. To me, that is the time I would want to know – before I buy this domain, does someone already have Twitter.com/FinallyMyPerfectNiche? But for now anyway, I guess they are not going to go to that much trouble for someone who has not already purchased the domain and logged into the account. The Twitter integration is for domains you already have registered with GoDaddy. I guess it might save people a step if they’ve had a domain name for a while and just never bothered to sign up for Twitter, or perhaps they just bought a domain and decided to log into GoDaddy to admire their portfolio instead of going straight to Twitter and grabbing the account name the old-fashioned way!

It’s really a good idea to get the same twitter name for your domain name, I just don’t like to manage more than one account on twitter.
I am not sure of changing or getting new twitter account or branding my domains (blogs and websites) by a separate twitter account for each, I think it’s more simple for me now to use my personal twitter account unless there is something really worth!
I use Godaddy also, I am happy with the control panel and it’s options, but I am not satisfied with the speed of my shared hosting account!
Thanks for the good post!

Hesham, I don't like having multiple Twitter accounts either. I wish there were a way to have several Twitter names and somehow roll them into one account the way we currently can forward Gmail accounts wherever we want and reply as another account we have.

Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t get my name because too many other people had it. Still, I’m happy with what I have.

Mitch - You're smart to just be happy with what you have and continue on! I've actually forgotten some of the Twitter accounts I started last year with various blogs - wish I had kept a list somewhere!

It is really good that they have such integration. Same as Hesham said I am not sure how to brand the twitter account.

I think people will Google for what your Twitter account is, or maybe you have a link on your blog, "Follow me on Twitter!" That would take care of it if your Twitter account is not the same as your domain name, I'd think.

I have never been a big fan of Go Daddy, I had a very dangerous and costly experience with them in the way back.
I will stick to liking their hot commercials.

I've started buying my domains straight from BlueHost now, because at least for a while there they were providing the privacy for free, so I just had to pay $10 total for each.
I appreciate your enjoyment of the commercial - I probably should put it into the middle of every post! :)

True - Everywhere we look, there's the blue Twitter icon just ready for us to sign in and get our account integrated with something!

I didn’t know that they did that. S thanks for sharing this. A lot more registrars whould be doing this. Most probably won’t do that because Godaddy wants to be all in one. Greg Ellison

This certainly is one more way for GoDaddy to be the all in one for us. I always enjoyed finding potential domain names there until Klaus @ TechPatio told me about NameBoy. WhoIs.net gets tired of me after a few queries!

This is great in building your brand. Luckily I got myself the same Twitter username with my name and blog.

Great! I understand Twitter is not expiring/cleaning out old accounts right now, so there are a lot of good names just sitting there idle. Glad you got your name, and hope others will be as lucky too.

Yeah, they certainly would hope we say gee, if I get my domains at GoDaddy, I can have them all in that one spot, and get Twitter account integration too! :)

Personally I don’t like Godaddy. But still have a thought of trying in Godaddy.

I've found the cheapest way to get a domain + privacy is through Google - "Google Apps for your domain." That is just $10 for domain including privacy, and your registration is sent to enom or GoDaddy. The only drawback I've seen is there is I have not found an easy way to contact them if something goes wrong with the account.

Klaus @ TechPatio
It’s a good idea for extra branding in case where a twitter profile would be suitable, but it’s probably not much worth if Twitter can’t keep up with Facebook anyway

:) I still haven't created a Facebook account! I guess I am counting on Facebook somehow pulling in my Friendfeed account to save me a little trouble. We'll see.

Hi , Christie.
I’m still a baby to the blog sphere and the internet, because everyday I learn a new word, that is helping me to grow in blogging, and today I keep seeing the term ..’branding’ I’m not quite sure what that means, but I’m having fun watching my twitter account grow each day…..I which I could have more time to be online networking and having fun learning and at the same time being able to apply what I learn more rapidly….but I’m working on it…
One thing I always keep in mind thou,is……”creation not competition.”
Thanks for all the great info, in your cool blog!!
Cheers….

Hi Paulo, Thank you so much! And you're right - there is plenty of room on the internet for us each to have our unique voice, our unique blog. After all, readers read more than one thing! When I said "branding" I was thinking of - if you see that there is a Twitter user @Problogger, you know that is Darren Rowse - Problogger.net is his blog, and Problogger is a name that is pretty much a brand. I'm with you - I sure wish I had more time to be online learning and having such fun!

I am not a big Godaddy fan at all, even though I have about a dozen of my domains still registered through them. That is a cool feature however. Unfortunately, our domain is too long to use in Twitter, so I shortened it to MMODOTCOM, but it works. I am guessing that other registrars will follow and start offering this as well, as it doesn’t cost them any extra money to implement it, except for some programming hours.

Grabing your Brand identity starts from here… getting Twitter ID under your domain name., adding facebook fan page and so on…. Though for some reason I don’t like Godaddy coz of some weird experience with them

I've heard some bad things about GoDaddy from some of the rest of you this week. Maybe I should have a poll in the sidebar to find out where's the best place to buy new domains! But great points Harsh - to grab the brand identity and put that name in all those places - Twitter, Facebook, etc. Thanks for your comment!

I’m not a huge fan of Godaddy… I think it stems back to when a client of mine insisted we buy their SSL through them. It was a multi-part certificate and they didn’t provide all the parts. It took a week to resolve. I’ve kinda refused to look at them since.
I set-up a “reseller” account with http://www.srsplus.com and use that to purchase all the domains I need for myself and clients. Works pretty well for me. Transferring in and out is a breeze. I’ve not tried to sell one yet though. They’re not as cheap as Godaddy, but it’s nearly there.

That is cool - I had never heard of SRSplus. Looks like a really good thing if you want to be a domain reseller - no up front cost to you, etc. Thanks Robert - I may look into this in a year or so.
